The wolfbane is blooming! The autumn moon is full! Run! Run like the accursed wretch you are to the ol’ leather couch because it’s time to watch The Wolf Man! The first in our series of horror movies for the month of October.
In Seen It, we discuss Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of American Liberty and Guardians of snake-filled plane passengers.
I agree with you guys up to a point that Lon Cheney Jr. definitely was not a good romantic lead but I think he more than makes up for it in the desperation and the hopelessness of the Lawrence Talbot character. With Bela Lugosi’s Dracula you have the seductiveness and the sexiness. With Boris Karloff’s Frankenstien’s Monster you have the loneliness and alienation. With the wolfman you have a man who does horrendous things that he does not want to do but finds he can’t stop himself. And I think Lon Cheney nails the helplessness and just being lost and not knowing how to stop himself from becoming the monster that is within himself. As other wolfman movies that Lon Cheney did as time went on the underlining theme was that he was always trying to find a cure for his situation and trying to find away not to hurt people.
