Paint Your Wagon

Get the gold fever, and join Craig and Matt as they watch, riff on and discuss the 1969 musical western “Paint Your Wagon”. Plus another edition of “Seen It” — the feature in which we discuss movies that Matt has already seen.

I’m stunned that I’m the first person to leave a comment for this one! My first exposure to “Paint Your Wagon” was a reference in the “All Singing, All Dancing” episode of “The Simpsons”, while my first earful of Clint Eastwood belting out a tune came from the “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” soundtrack. Now that I’ve heard Clint singing in this movie, I’m not sure if his voice improved from 1969 to 1997. I know Matt hates “Midnight…”, so I won’t ask for an opinion on that. 😉

Speaking of actors who don’t usually sing, have you considered that as a theme (or its converse, singers who don’t usually act)? I’d suggest “Beyond the Sea” (starring Kevin Spacey) for the former, and “Dreamgirls” (with Oscar winner Jennifer “Take that, ‘American Idol'” Hudson) for the latter.

    Keep up the awesomeness!

Well, I’m old enough that I saw “Paint Your Wagon” when it was originally released at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. As a huge Clint Eastwood fan at the time (and now) I saw everything he did at the time. This was most definitely a different Eastwood experience but unlike you two, I enjoyed the movie then and still love it to this day. Only about two years ago I sat down with my wife to view it again. She had never seen it before and is not an Eastwood fan but she surprised the hell out of me by staying awake the entire film and letting me know that she liked it very much. All a matter of personal taste, I suppose. After seeing your review, I’m in the mood to see it again!
