I watched “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane” because I heard you guys talk about it. Overall I really liked the story. Though I hated the things Jane did the movie never made me hate Jane herself because it showed me how much pain she was in. Most movies don’t have villains that do terrible things but are still people you can feel for. The ending made me sad and happy at the same time. I was sad that Jane got caught because I was afraid of what would happen to her but I was happy too because maybe now she would get the help she needed and Blanch would live. Mat, I’m sorry that you were stuck in movie theater with laughing loons when you first saw it because it is a really good movie.
I did get tired of all the near misses in the middle of the movie. When the doctor was going to come over and then got convinced not to I found it a little hard to believe. I think a real doctor would have been concerned at his patients violent mood swings at the very least and come to see her anyway. People’s reactions in movies like this seem to be based off of the idea that most people believe they live in a safe happy world. Maybe some people do but I never have so it’s hard for me to believe characters that act like they are from a different reality then my own. Maybe I’m just not their target audience or maybe I’ve just seen too many movies like this. One of the things this type of movie says is: there is danger all around you. Wake up. I guess if you’ve already woken up you don’t need to be told to.
